The inspiration for my illustrations is drawn from contemporary photography, films, popular culture and art from the Renaissance to today. I am especially interested in the contradictory nature of humanity which I like to express with a subtle hint of decadence or eroticism. A lot of my recent drawings depict humans all looking similar and with no facial expressions - unaware of the irony that their depiction conveys to the viewer.
I prefer to work with traditional tools and techniques so most of my images are hand-drawn with ink pens, markers, pencil, gouache and water colours and only very occasionally digitally reworked. The hand-drawn aspect of my work is very important to me as I enjoy the challenge of drawing intricate detail while striving to express a certain simplicity.
